NIKLAS LUKASSEN
BASS CELLO TRIO

The newly formed trio around bassist & band leader Niklas Lukassen also features pianist Gwilym Simcock and drummer James Maddren. Together they venture on untrodden musical paths with Niklas on the bass cello, a unique and novel instrument.

The opportunity of finding a voice on an instrument that has yet to reveal the full range of its sonic properties is a gift. There is a sense of liberation in doing something that hasn't exactly been done before. This new view point is fertile ground for creative ideas and manifests in child like marvel, that instantly rubs off on the audience. 

 

In this group  the already extensively explored piano trio format, gets a fresh sound with rearranged parameters for interplay between three musicians with ears for where to take the music next.
